Frequently Asked Questions

1. I’m away at University but won’t get back home in time to vote. Can I vote in Waterloo?

Yes! You can vote in Waterloo if you:

  1. are a Canadian citizen;
  2. are at least 18 years old on election day; and,
  3. establish proof of identity and your Waterloo address.

You can establish proof of identity and your Waterloo address in one of 3 ways:

  1. Provide one original piece of identification issued by a government or government agency containing your photo, name and your Waterloo address.
  2. Provide two original pieces of identification authorized by the Chief Electoral Officer of Canada. Both pieces must contain your name, and one must also contain your Waterloo address. Here is a partial list:

    • Government Cheque or Government Cheque Stub with elector name

  3. You can be vouched for by an elector whose name appears on the list of electors in the same polling division and who has an acceptable piece or pieces of identification. Both will be required to make a sworn statement. An elector cannot vouch for more than one person, and the person who has been vouched for cannot vouch for another elector.

2. When is Election Day?

Election Day is on October 14, 2008! Polls will be open in Ontario from 9:30 a.m. until 9:30 p.m.

3. I’m busy on October 14 th but would still like to vote. Can I vote at another time?

Yes! You can vote at the advance polls which will happen on October 3rd, 4th and 6th, 2008 between noon and 8:00 p.m. or vote on any day before October 8th via special ballot. For a complete listing of advance poll locations in Waterloo, please use the contact information below.

4. Where do I vote?

Where you vote depends on where you live. If you don’t receive a voting card from Elections Canada, which often happens to students, and would like to know where you should go and vote in Waterloo, please use the contact information below.

5. I need a ride to the polls. Can I get one?

Yes! If you need a ride to the polls, please use the contact information below to arrange a ride. The Andrew Telegdi Campaign will pick you up and drop you off. And, don’t worry, we don’t ask how you’re going to vote. We just want to support the democratic process.
